"Life is what happens to us while we're busy making other plans."
John Lennon - 1980
Good morning, everyone.
The Florida Bar lost a former employee and dear, dear friend recently.
Just yesterday, our office received the tragic news that Gregg Wenzel died
in a car accident in Africa. Gregg worked in the Miami Branch Office of
Lawyer Regulation as Bar counsel from 1998-2001. Gregg had been in
Ethiopia working for the U.S. government when this tragedy occurred. To
anyone who knew him, it seems surreal. It is hard to fathom that as I type
this email that I will not see my friend again during this lifetime. Gregg
did more in his 33 years than many people do in a lifetime. Gregg was a
passionate man w/many interests and he was an inspiration to others. He
enjoyed athletics (he participated in numerous Ironman triathalons and
marathons), photography, and traveling, amongst other things. He was
involved as a coach with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in
Training, and through this organization, he helped many to raise money to
cure these diseases as well as reach their goal of running a marathon.
When he worked w/the bar, he would routinely step up to the plate to
assist others during trial. He was a deeply spiritual individual who
always left others with a smile. Gregg did not know the meaning of the
words "I can't do it" or "I'm not able to". Without a doubt, he lived life
to the fullest. I am grateful to have called Gregg my friend as he
certainly touched my life. If there is a message that any of us can take
from this tragedy, it is simply that we must live our lives in the here and
now. I cannot begin to imagine the pain his family must be feeling at this
time. I just ask that each one of us take a moment to pray for them at
this time of unspeakable sorrow. All the best Gregg, I look forward to
meeting up w/you again on the other side.
God Bless,
Bill Mulligan
